About Us
Direct Import was started in 1984 by Charles and Gina Blomefield and it has remained a family business aiming to offer a personal service. Over the years it has become a leading supplier of hand-painted Italian ceramics specialising in commissioning fine quality earthenware from several factories and workshops in the Bassano del Grappa area in northern Italy. In recent years we have also sourced ceramics from Thai manufacturers for our hand-painted range of table and breakfast-ware. These are decorated on stoneware which is more robust and suitable for everyday use.
When the business first started, Direct Import’s principle activity was selling at Charity events around the country in the pre-Christmas season. During the last twenty-one years, we have exhibited at over a thousand charity fairs and have contributed more than £250,000 for charities such as CRMF, Save the Children, the Red Cross and many others. In addition to the charity fairs which remain a core activity Direct Import also runs a mail order service and has a busy shop in the centre of Chipping Campden. We also takes stands at Badminton Horse Trials, Royal Show, the Game Fair and Burghley.
Over the years as a result of the company’s growth we have expanded the range of products to include interesting and unusual products from around the world. These are all available in our shop and a representative selection of these are in our mail order brochure or on this website.
